Sacro Lounge
This popular cafe bar is in a fantastic location, facing onto Spring Gardens by the entrance to the shopping centre, which makes it great for people watching. Big windows and folding doors give a light and airy feel once inside, especially on warm, sunny days. If you can’t find a table downstairs, there’s ample room upstairs and the whole place is clean and comfortable, complemented by an eclectic mix of interesting wall art and quirky furnishings.
Sacro Lounge offers a fantastic range of food and drinks (including extensive kids, gluten-free and vegan menus) and everyone is made very welcome by the friendly staff – shoppers, locals, visitors, kids and dogs. This place really does appeal to people of all ages.
On the day which we visited to write this review, the pub was busy with people taking advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, but we were quickly greeted and seated at a table. There was plenty of space for the pushchair and it was clean and ready for us to sit down.
With the new COVID restrictions we were keen to see how the staff handled the rules which need to be in place. The inside is well-spaced and there is hand sanitiser available on entry and at the bottom of the stairs. The track and trace system is strongly encouraged, with both paper forms to fill in and an electronic QR code system available. You can order food and drinks to your table via an app, but we found the wifi connection quite poor so opted to order at the bar.
My food choice was the Lounge Bacon Cheeseburger which included a beef patty, lettuce, tomato, red onion, gherkin, American cheese, smoked streaky bacon and an incredibly tasty burger sauce. My burger was served with sweet potato fries. Gemma fancied a trio of Tapas; Salt & Pepper Squid with roasted garlic mayo, crispy crumbed Halloumi Sticks with chipotle chilli jam and Cheddar & Sweetcorn Fritters. We both chose well – our food was well presented and tasted absolutely delicious. We’d usually have had pudding too but a combination of the generous portions and refreshing Estrella beer left us both replete.

Our overall experience on the day was very good, but this is the norm – we’ve been to Sacro Lounge a number of times now. I’m not sure whether it’s the friendly and welcoming staff, the great food or the whole ambience of this place which makes it so appealing? Maybe it’s all three? Do give it a go, and decide for yourself.
