Ithaca Greek Restaurant
Ithaca Greek Taverna offers a truly authentic Greek dining experience, with a menu featuring many traditional dishes from the Ionian Islands, alongside some Mediterranean-influenced choices.
We visited on a cold Friday night in January and we were greeted with a lovely, warm welcome when we entered the restaurant by Nico and his team. It didn’t take long for us to be seated at a table of our choice drinking a refreshing Mythos whilst we perused the menu.
Both Gemma and I opted for the same menu choices. To start with we had shallow fried Calamari served with Garlic Mayonaise and Lemon. We were both surprised how quickly our starters arrived but the Calamari was absolutely delicious; a light batter accented the lovely taste and the texture of the Calamari was perfect. Very generous portions too, we soon polished them off!
For our main course, we ordered Mix Souvlaki; a Chargrilled rump of Lamb, Pork and Chicken Souvlaki served with homemade double-fried Chips, Tzatziki and Pita Bread.
Souvlaki is a classic Greek recipe, and ours was absolutely packed with freshness and flavour, cooked to perfection. A very enjoyable dish that we would have no hesitation in recommending.
Our meal was finished off with a shared trio of desserts; Baklava, Orange Cake and Sticky Toffee Pudding, which we both really enjoyed.
We have visited Ithaca Greek Restaurant many times; as a couple, with friends and with family. We always enjoy the warm welcome and gratifying menu but, on the night of our visit for the purpose of this review, we felt a bit ‘rushed’; the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy and we had staff hovering around waiting to whisk our plates away as soon as we finished. We found this a little disconcerting, but it certainly won’t put us off visiting again.
Greek food not only tells the story of the country’s past, it is also part of the present, and we’d highly recommend a visit to Ithaca Greek Restaurant to enjoy authentic and original Greek cooking with an emphasis on fresh ingredients served in a welcoming, comfortable environment.
