Pizza Express
Pizza Express Buxton is located within the Cavendish shopping arcade in the centre of the town. Inside, the dining area is split over two levels, with a view of the open pizza kitchen. It is accessible from the outside and the lower level can be accessed from inside the arcade.
As a first-time mum, I was a little apprehensive before arriving, having little experience of taking Arthur out to lunch without Andrew. Would today be the day I mastered the art of eating one-handed whilst juggling a wriggly young baby?
With the current social distancing restrictions, I thought it best to book a table; for myself, Arthur and his buggy, a friend of mine and her toddler who also had a buggy and needed a high chair. With the need for all this extra space, I was glad when we were shown to a roomy part of the restaurant, which meant we could be relaxed without being too enclosed in. We visited on a Wednesday in August, so the Eat out to Help out Scheme was in full swing, and the tables soon filled up. Upon arrival, we were told that the menu was now available online, by scanning in a QR code. The waitress would still however come and take our orders once we were ready. Paper menus were however available to those who could not access the menu via their mobile phones. The restaurant was clean and tidy and there was hand sanitiser readily available.
Pizza Express regularly have offer vouchers available, and before our visit, I downloaded a code for free dough balls with each main course. So my friend and I ordered these alongside our mains. I opted for a La Reine Romana pizza; which has the thinly rolled base, topped with ham and olives. This was delicious and was enjoying it immensely until Arthur decided it was his lunchtime – I soon realised it was time to test my multi-tasking skills and feed both myself and Arthur with his bottle! My friend had a beautiful chicken salad, it looked to die for! Pizza Express has a great children’s menu, so our dining toddler had the starter of children’s dough balls and salad bites, a lovely pasta bolognese and an ice cream for dessert, all of which were consumed with great delight.
The service in the restaurant was quick and efficient; we received both our drinks and food promptly. A visit to the toilets with Arthur confirmed that they have more than adequate baby change facilities in the Disabled toilet also. The meal was also value for money, especially after receiving the Eat out to Help out discount.
Would we dine here as a family again? Normally Pizza Express is a little pricey, but with meal vouchers available online, I’d definitely give it another go.
